Welcome to Mechanisms in Hematology

Mechanisms in Hematology will be of interest to hematologists,oncologists, stem cell transplant specialists, andimmunologists, as well as to medical students, residents, andhematology fellows, as an educational resource. It providesessential background for understanding the molecular biologyand pathophysiology of hematologic disorders.

The goal has been to assemble the core knowledge required tounderstand twenty-seven different topics in hematology. Eachchapter provides an explanation of fundamental biologicalconcepts and links them to the relevant clinical disorders.Suggested readings accompany each chapter and areintended to entice the reader to delve further into the subject.
